Baseball has been around since long before movies were even a thought, so it is only understandable that there would be a fair share of films that use America’s pastime as its theme.

The first baseball eve made debuted in 1915, with John ‘Mugsy’ McGraw himself being the star. That would laugh dozens of movies that decade alone that he appeared in.

Over the past century, dozens upon dozens of movies have revolved around the sport of baseball. This is a game that America loves, so it makes sense that various storylines from, incline triumph and agony, have been woven into stories worthy of the big screen.

There have been so many movies made about the sport that it is hard to narrow down the best. Take this list as my best effort to do just that. You might just find one or two that you have not seen in a while. Break out the popcorn and curl up in front of the television to do just that tonight!

Bull Durham from 1988

This is a movie that has a bit of everything. It has an all-star cast to begin. You also get to see what it is like to manage a baseball team, and how the players go through the rigors of a long season while trying to keep their own romantic lives in balance. It is a tremendously powerful movie.

A League of Their Own from 1992

A movie about baseball and starring Madonna must be worth seeing. That is why this movie is so memorable. Tom Hanks is a manger in this one, and it would be seen as a major breakthrough in his career.

The Pride of the Yankees from 1942

With Gary Cooper playing Lou Gehrig, this is a movie that people are still talking about decades later. It also contains Babe Ruth playing himself, so baseball fans often go back to this one to relive that glory days of the Yankees.

Field of Dreams from 1989

This is one of the most popular movies ever made, and it is all about baseball. It is about dads and their kids, and the love of baseball. It is a great feel good movie that can be watched anytime.

Eight Men Out from 1988

This is a somewhat serious movie that was written and directed by John Sayles. It takes a look at one of the worst scandals that rocked the baseball world. It is a wake-up call to work hard to keep the sport clean.

Moneyball from 2011

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill team up to form quite the pair in this one. The movie takes a look at the statistics and numbers behind the sport of baseball. It is a way to rekindle our love for the sport.

The Natural from 1984

If you somehow missed this movie, now is your chance to catch it again. Robert Redford starred in this romantic story with a great baseball theme.

The Sandlot from 1993

This is a classic movie that kids and adults alike have loved for decades. It rehashes the love that boys and girls have for just picking up a ball and glove to play the sport they love. It doesn’t matter how nice or jumbled up the field might be. Forget the money. Just play ball!

Everybody Wants Some! From 2016

This is a movie that is growing in popularity with age. It has a star-studded cast that tells quite the story. It is a funny, yet extremely moving story about the game of baseball.

Bang the Drum Slowly from 1973

We end the list with this movie starring Robert De Niro. He is a catcher that ends up with a terminal illness. You will have to watch the movie to see how that turns out.
